Vestas Blade Project. Isle of White

Main Contractor - Sir Robert McAlpine

Roofing Contractor - Prater Ltd

Located on the Isle of Wight, this facility is for the manufacture of blades for micro-turbines. The blades, likely to be made of thermo plastic, are developed with the help of Southampton University, and have the environmental advantage of being recyclable and after use they can be melted down and turned into new blades.

Vestas Blade Technology is expanding its existing research and development activities on the Isle of Wight and is making a significant investment in a new State-of-the-art blade technology facility on the Western bank of the River Medina.

This facility will be capable of designing and manufacturing prototypes, then testing some of the world’s largest wind turbine blades
